Default Dr. OOT: Has anyone ever experienced Tietze\'s syndrome?

I've had chest pain for about three days, but it seems to not be associated with my heart. Basically, I feel like I need to "crack" my sternum as I crack my knuckles (my sternum does indeed pop once in a while). I can make the pain go away or feel more sharp based on how I'm sitting, the position of my arms, etc. It hurts to press on the top of my sternum.

Clearly if I thought this was serious I'd have already seen a doctor, and if it doesn't go away by Monday I'll get my ass in there, but I'm not going to the emergency room for a sore sternum.

Anyway, I looked it up and found Tietze's syndrome on wiki. It sounds exactly what's happening here. Anyone have any experience with this?

No, tuq, my wife did not back into my sternum.

Klompy,

Always stressed, but nothing out of the ordinary.

El D,

Yeah, when my lungs are at their fullest there's very localized pain at the top of my sternum, it immediately goes away when I let the air out.

Oooh, I know this as costochondritis - never heard it called Tietze's syndrome before. Yeah, see your doctor to make sure it's not anything more serious. Probably hurts if you press right where your ribs meet your sternum, right? Advil/heating pads/gently stretch your pecs like so:

Normally self limited and gets better within a few weeks.

If I could stretch like that, I'd never leave the house.
