Default Legislation Down Under

I was wondering if any one had any information regarding legislation in Australia. As with many others following the recent poker boom, my friends and I based in Australia play online frequently. With the US passing its recent amendment to its Safe Port Bill I stopped to think if any Australian laws are in place against online gambling. Before playing online for the first time I did a quick search for any information regarding the Australian Governments stance but came up empty handed. I assumed that If Google could not find any relevant information on the topic than it must not exist.

Does anyone have any information regarding online gambling in Australia that they could share?

Cheers,
HF

From a quick Google. Some law seems to have been passed in Aus in 2001 or so making online gambling illegal - I think - it is not that obvious from a quick read of the articles.

Australian law makes it illegal for companies to offer internet gambling to Australians. That's it.

This is the full explanation of it:

Playing online poker is not illegal, but providing the service is.

Thus, the site is breaking the law, not the consumer.
