Re: The demise of this forum
Hi Dave and Jay - A compliation of sticky threads is a good idea. I'm currently working on a similar project for the Omaha-high forum.
But it's harder than if might seem. There are great posts within threads, and someones several great posts - but there's chaff too. My current thinking is maybe it's better to just expand the FAQ. I'd be happy to have a group of us work on it, if anyone is interested, or you can P.M. me suggestions. Buzz |

Buzz [/ QUOTE ] A good process might be to make a new post of link suggestions so that we can start collaborating, and everyone can research and reply with their nominations. After we have a large pool of important posts, we can do some narrowing down. |

Re: The demise of this forum
I'm one of these potential new players. I've been mucking around with low limit PLO8 lately, and reading as much as I could here (thought I haven't started posting yet).
In defence of the newbies, it's really quite hard to find theory on this game, even if you prefer to read up rather than ask to have it handed to you, like me. I think a really strong step forward would be to encourage the regulars of this forum to keep coming up with old threads that are helpful, theory wise, to collect them all into a sticky and then, as someone said earlier, if someone posts something like "what are the best books" just reply with "check the sticky". What's more, most of the time when I come to this board I see relatively few new posts, the majority of which are limits that are WAYYY beyond my means/bankroll. This can be off-putting and can make the baord seem inaccessible. As one random example of how I'd like the board to be, I came across a thread yesterday relating to Buzz's old articles. In one of them I read him analysing a hand, using hits and misses, contemplating whether a raise could come behind him, etc, etc. As basic as this might seem to you guys, to a poker noob like me this was pretty eye-opening and I quickly added the thread to my favourites. If we had an accessible collection of all those quality threads in a sticky, newcomers might feel they have an "in" into this game and then start posting hands and trying to join in in legitimate discussions. Edit: I replied directly to a firtst-page post, before reading that people had basically said what I've said 97 times already in the thread |

Re: The demise of this forum
These are valid complaints.
I'll start moving the posts regarding books to the Books and Publications forum. I'm not sure what to do about various other posts. I want to encourage new posters. We all started out as new posters. But this is, after all, a forum primarily for discussion of tactics and strategy. If you have a suggestion, you can P.M. me or just hit the "contact us" button at the bottom of the page. I'll automatically get sent an e-mail, notifying me to look at the post. You can either write what's wrong or not. If it's obvious, I'll handle it. If it's not obvious, I'll P.M. you and ask what's wrong. Buzz |

Re: The demise of this forum
I disagree. you need new blood and people coming in or the forum dies long term. and newbies always ask basic questions, thats what makes them newbies. then they learn and becme breal-worthy.
Just put a reply saying "see the FAQ" and lock the thread |

that's funny... I was thinking that all the cliqueish posts about who's the best online O8 player were boring me.

Re: The demise of this forum
This comes up every few months. On almost all of the forums I monitor, someone is saying that it is going downhill. You can't please everyone all of the time, that is just the way it goes.
I am surprised, however, that Dave started the topic this time The forum isn't going anywhere, nor am I. I'm here to stay. 2+2 has always been my home. I may be really sick and need to take time off, but unless I'm removed from the earth, I'm going to be here. FYI, I am getting better. Pancreatitis is a horrible disease, but I'm getting over it. I hope to be back full-time in the next month or two. Felicia |

Re: The demise of this forum
Hi Felicia - I am delighted that you are at least healed enough to post again, and I look forward to your return.
Let everyone understand that I am doing this moderator thing because you are ill and that in my mind you are the true moderator of this forum. I have appreciated and continue to appreciate your leadership. Relax, get well, and come back when you are ready. The forum will still be here waiting for you. Buzz |
