My first post - how my pocket Qs got busted.
This is what happened last night in a casino where I recently started playing 3-6 limit.
I was on the button and it was also a kill pot (betting doubles this hand). I saw three people call in front of me and I looked at QQ. Raised it to $ 12. SB folded, BG called and so did four others. Pre flop there were 6 players with lot of money already built. Anyway, the flop came J 3 6. I bet $6 , called again by three others (one guy folded in this round). At this point I was thinking, what the heck!... I really did not want any one to suck out on me and the flop did not look that dangerous. The turn came Ace of diamonds. That was a terrible card for me I thought. Since there were four other players playing through preflop betting, post flop betting, I figured, some one having an Ace is a real possibility. It was checked back to me and I checked. This is where I thought I made a blunder, but more on this later…hind sight is 20-20 The river came 3 (J 3 6 A 3). It was again checked to me and I bet $ 12. BB raised it to $24 (that was sick). Every one folded and I called to see he turn up 7 3 off suit. His set 3s win over my pocket Qs. I was so mad at BB, but then I thought I missed a trick by not betting the turn, I had no doubt he would have folded had I bet the turn..I was representing a big hand and ace would have forced every one to fold……but then I thought how could I bet the turn when an Ace came…specially when five players were hanging around under all that betting… well I lost a big pot, but I still cant believe the BB played 7 3 off suit after a pre flop raise to 12 dollars… How do you guys see this hand … Any one would have played this different? |

Re: My first post - how my pocket Qs got busted.
i would have bet the turn. i sure wouldn't be crying about it, though. [censored] happens. at least he hit a five outer on you and not a one outer in a $3500 pot like what happend to me tuesday night in a NL game. poker is brutal. get used to it.

I doubt BB would fold on the turn. They might fold bottom pair on river, but not on the turn.

I check behind on the turn hoping to see a cheap showdown. When it checks around again I turn 'em up. $0.02

Re: My first post - how my pocket Qs got busted.
Difficult to say. As you had shown such aggression, an ace is likely to check-raise the turn. You made a blunder in allowing a free card, and at the same time you could have gotten away from the hand if you were raised on the turn. Betting the river, however, was plain silly. Only people who call (or raise) are people who beat you. But I probably pay it off at that point, too.

I had no doubt he would have folded had I bet the turn. [/ QUOTE ] Um, no... They call it "no-foldem holdem" for a reason. Bottom pair is more than enough reason for these guys to go to showdown. |

You have to bet the turn here. If you get bet into on the river that's another story.

Re: My first post - how my pocket Qs got busted.
if you are not prepared to take a bad beats in limit hold'em, you shouldnt be playing
how do good players make money? bet the strong hands, and let them chasers chase... there was no flush draw nor straight draw on that board and this guy called you all the way with bottom pair and got lucky.. those times that he chases and misses are the time you win money |
