Best single book for any poker variant?
What is the best single book that best describes how to play any type of poker variant for a beginner?
In other words, let's say someone knows that ranking of poker hands, but that's it. They don't know any strategy but want to learn how to play a particular tyoe of poker. What is the best book written that covers the most bases? |

Re: Best single book for any poker variant?
Getting Started in Hold'em
Although, if you told me I could have only one book on limit hold'em, it would be Weighing the Odds by King Yao. |

For example, is the best Stud Hi/Lo book better than the best Limit Holdem book? |

Re: Best single book for any poker variant?
play poker like the pro's ????? (ignoring the limit hold'em chapter)
Edit: Oh .... you don't want one book that covers all. In that case, getting started in hold'em and byron jacobs book on limit seem decent. Krieger and Tenner on omaha8 is also decent. Havent read any other books that might be suited for beginners, but if it is a smart person, I see no reason why a quick read of miller/jacobs and a week or two at the tables should be enough to make him/her ready for nonbeginners stuff. |

I think you're looking for "the best book on any SINGLE poker variant". I'm not an accomplished reader of single variant type books, but I also think King Yao's book is excellent. |

Best single book for any poker variant? [/ QUOTE ] I think your title is why you are having trouble. It clearly asks for a single book to cover multiple varities of poker. It appears that what you might want is a comparasion of books written for a single type of poker. Something like of all the diferent types of poker, which one has the best book for a beginner? |

[/ QUOTE ] Because the meaning of "any" has been watered down so that it can now be used to mean "every" as well as "any one". This is stupid because it means that "every" gets two words ("every" and "any") while to say "any" you have to use two words. It is nevertheless the situation in modern English. Guy. |
