2/4nl w/AK
Hey folks, this is actually my first post here. Im a long time lurker and have been reading these forums for a while now. I used to be a mtt player who recently switched over to cash soo im still new and trying to master the ring games.
I was playing 2/4 nl and had AK in the sb. I had a stack of $400. UTG + 1 limped, as did mp1. I made it 24 from the sb with AKhh. UTG + 1 called and the player in mp folded. The flop came down K 5 7 rainbow. I bet out $35 he called. The turn was a 9. I bet out again this time $60 and he raises to $160. I forgot to mention he was sitting with $750 or so. After he makes this raise what's the plan? Did I misplay the hand before the turn? I would like to hear any and all analysis and crtitisism. |

Re: 2/4nl w/AK
I think you played it OK. A little bit of an overbet as I work the math to be $48 in the pot? I suppose $35 is OK, but I'd prefer something more like $25. His turn line is a little scary, but I would normally just call this down. Reads on him would be helpful, because without that, it's very difficult to put him on a (range) hand.

Re: 2/4nl w/AK
The guy played a style that's rather typical for a poor 2/4 player. Limping in way too much, mini raising a lot, etc. I didn't give him much respect. The bet size argument I don't particularly understand. All I've heard from people is that in cash games, unlike mtts you should bet closer to the size of the pot. I talk to a couple high stakes players online that im friends with and they yelled at me because when I first switched to ring I would bet like half the pot like I did in mtts. I would love to hear a counter argument to this.

Re: 2/4nl w/AK
The $35 bet is perfectly fine. Again, it depends really on the type of player you're playing. Generally, against LAGs you'd want to bet more towards the pot and against tight nits more towards half, atleast that's the rule I always use. As for your read, I think calling the turn bet and a possible c/r on the river would be a good line to take. If you say he's playing LAG he could be trying to get you off the hand with some drawy hand or a weak K or A9.

Re: 2/4nl w/AK
Well, I ended up pushing over him ai. He turned over 55 for a set and I moved on. I understand there are coolers and you just have to rebuy and play again. Any thoughts on how I played this after he rr me?

Re: 2/4nl w/AK
As I said, I prefer calling this down much more. He could be drawing to something, hit two pair or set to beat your current TPTK. All-in here is iffy, because the only hand that's going to call you there are the ones that beat you.
