Vegas casino question

Are the casinos(in Vegas) getting away from coins all together(Im talking about slots)? Usually in between trips, Ill throw any loose quarters I have in an old coin bucket(s) and when I go next just cash them in there at wherever I am staying, usually its enough to cover my food/gas while I am there, I asked a friend to get me a couple of change buckets when he was there last week and he said all the machines pay out in tickets now? WTF? has Vegas turned into the Southern Cali Indian casinos? Does the cashiers still take loose coin?

The last coin slots on the Strip were at the New Frontier, which is now closed. End of an era.

Dunno about downtown or the neighborhoods. I would assume that none do, because now that people are used to the paper transactions, they like them. They are faster so they get to play more. No joke.

Silverton has coins on lots of machines still. I remember there being a few places that do, but not many. I just can't remember which ones off the top of my head cept for the Silverton as I was just there the other day. Oh yes, Jokers Wild has some very old coin dispensing machines as well, or they did this past summer.

I know Sahara still has a few coin slots. Some quarter and nickel machines by the poker room.

I don't know about down south, but in Nor. Cal. and in Tahoe and Reno there are casinos that will cash in your loose change for you. Just because the slot machines have gone to paper tickets doesn't necessarily mean that the casinos got rid of their coin sorting/counting machines.

At least look into it before paying 9% or whatever to coinstar.

If you have a bank acccount, see if you bank will run them through the coin counter. Otherwise, get some free wrappers from the bank and wrap them yourself while you are watching television.

video poker has a higher percentage of machines that still pay in coins. this is probably because the profit margin on VP is lower than slots, and also that the fundamentals of the game have never changed (meaning they don't have to upgrade the software on the machines). so you'll see some of the lower-end strip and downtown casinos still have coin VP.

A lot of banks have these machines available free of charge. I learned this the hard way one time when I painstakingly put all of my change into rolls (because I didn't want to pay the Coinstar fees), took it to the bank, and the teller said: "Uhhh, you need to take it out of the rolls and dump it in the machine up front." And then I said: "Why don't you just punch me in the face?"

i played coins this june at tropicana which is south end of strip and downtown at binions i believe.
