Silly question re: bottled beer / top shelf booze in Vegas.
I realize this is just a silly question but this is not mentioned specifically on www.allvegaspoker.com so here goes:
Do all the poker rooms serve bottled beer and top shelf booze? If not, then which ones? Any limits on ordering? Shots? Etc? As anybody who's been to AC more than once can tell you, all you get there are crappy plastic cups of watery beer and well liquors. Except for the Borg which gives you pretty much anything. Sometimes, you just want a nice shot of the Henny. Anyway, I like booze and it likes me. But I like the good stuff better. Plus I am looking forward to getting back to Vegas next month and am asking my question in good drunken faith. Thanks. |

Re: Silly question re: bottled beer / top shelf booze in Vegas.
The better places offer better choices, obviously. Top shelf is available at Venetian, as well as beers including Guiness.
You can order two drinks, one liquor and one water (if ordering two, be sure to give $1 per drink to the waitress, common courtesy). Good luck! |

[/ QUOTE ] generally, the first time the waitress gets something for me, she gets a 5 or a 10. then, she gets a dollar/drink...think about it, if you're going to get drunk, and probably overtip at the end of the night while you're drunk, why not do it in the beginning, so she remembers the original good tip, and looks out for you the rest of the night?? |

Bellagio, Wynn, etc have the best stuff and I have seen people order drinks that normally cost $20-30. Bottled beer is at every casino just about and every poker room in Vegas(El Cortez excluded). I've ordered Guiness at Venetian(they serve the draught bottles) and Newcastle at Bellagio. Lesser places may only serve domestics and common imports and microbrews(ie Corona, Heinekin, etc). Monte Carlo serves microbrews as well. Osheas serves draft Guiness which is awesome. No limits on ordering, but some places get grumpy if you are ordering for non playing friends(unless you are playing big enough and tipping well) |

I was delighted to discover that the Rio card room served me actual Coca-Cola when I ordered a Jack and Coke, instead of Pepsi which is what they had in the rest of the casino.

Re: Silly question re: bottled beer / top shelf booze in Vegas.
I stayed for a week at the Venetian about 3 weeks ago, and they have absolutely everything I could think of ordering.
Forget the shots - here's what I did: Every time that I was getting ready to end a session, I would make sure to order a big 'ol glass of booze to walk out with. I'm not talking about a little coctail glass, I mean one of those huge glasses that a large tropical drink would typically be served in. I was just tipping the standard $1/drink the whole night, and always walked out with about 5 shots worth of Bombay Saphire. IMHO, I was most impressed with the drink service at the Venetian, but this will probably work in the 2 other good hotels on the strip. |

Re: Silly question re: bottled beer / top shelf booze in Vegas.
Regarding the tipping, the reason I mentioned it specifically (with regard to $1 per drink) is that I see so many tourists at the table order TWO drinks (i.e. a Fiji water and a beer), but only give $1 total. $1 per drink is fine (more is, of course, fine too), but it is as if they don't realize that it is the service of bringing two drinks (and taking up double the room on the tray) that they are paying for, not the drink itself.
Sorry for the mini rant. Newcastle is available at Venetian as well, I believe. |

but it is as if they don't realize that it is the service of bringing two drinks [/ QUOTE ] They don't (nothing to realize here, move along folks), it takes about 1 second longer to bring a bottle of water and a shot as it takes to bring just the shot. Now I do tip a minimum of $1 per beverage but what if the player is a 50 cents per beverage tipper? He doesn't even have to tip at all, otherwise the drinks would have a price, not be free. My rant is just for those who forget that tipping is optional not an obligation. |
