Traditionally in a 9x9 the center is an excellent play. Being three or four spaces out is good in general, but the center is only five spaces out from all four corners!

Going only two spaces out, like g7 or c3, is typically considered too bunched into the corner, giving up influence on the rest of the board.

GNU did this sometimes against me, when I played it earlier. But it seemed completely random what it did. I always opened like clowntable did, and sometimes it took another corner, sometimes the middle and sometimes it attacked me immidiately.

I opened like that because it had a big mark on the board so i thought it must be good [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
