It's actually the exact opposite. Generally, you're going to need a bigger field to justify playing small suited connectors because whenever you enter a pot with them you're at an equity deficit relative to how much you're putting in the pot. You need more people to enter the pot because more hands narrow your equity deficit (and sometimes give you positive equity).

False, these are the types of hands that need odds to draw to. The more people in the pot the better. These hands by themselves have no showdown value. You won't win pots with top pair with these typse of hands. You need to make straights and flushes for suited connecters to win. When you chase draws you want good odds to call with.

More people = bigger pot = proper odds to call.

You should read small stakes hold em by Sklansky, Miller, and Malmuth. They go over the reasons why Sc's are better multiway than heads up. Essentially, if you make a four flush on the flop you'll make your flush about 35% of the time.


If you are putting in 50% of the money, you must lose 15% over the long run--Does that make since?

Likewise, If there are 4 people in the pot than you are putting in 25% of the money and you have a 35% chance of winning--so that 10% is your edge. You stand to make 10% more than your investment over the long run. When you have a draw the more people the better. This concept is called a pot equity edge.

There are exceptions like if you can take a guy whole stack anyway if you do hit your draw even though you are heads up such as in no limit.

You also may lose to a higher flush or someone might improve to a full house--but the point is you want to put yourself in situations where you are favored to win over the long run.
