Default Re: Sit and Gos- Is the rake fair?

This is my reply from Lee Jones on the matter.

[ QUOTE ]
Hi James -
Yes, I got your message, and I've asked one of my staffers to do some
research on this for me. One he gets back to me I'll be able to respond to
you with an intelligent answer - I don't want to just say something that's
meaningless.

I do wonder about one thing, and would ask you to take it into
consideration:

I worry greatly about the increasing technological advantage that
the sharks have over the fish. With Sharkscope, PokerTracker, ICM, and god
only knows what other tools you have at your disposal, have you sharks
become *too* efficient at eating the fish? Have you become so good at it
that the fish population is no longer healthy? [1] I don't know the answer
to this question - it's one of the things that I want to learn from our
research.

Obviously, we care about a healthy game environment as much as you
do. I will get back to you as soon as I've had a chance to review the data
a bit.

Best regards,
Lee Jones

[1] I'm an avid scuba diver and have learned a little about fisheries. One
of the ever-repeating stories is how a fishery stays healthy as long as the
technology for catching those fish isn't sufficiently advanced. Then
ultimately the fishermen develop tools that allow them to catch the fish
too efficiently. At that point, the fishery is decimated and the fishermen
are out of business because it's no longer cost-effective to fish.

a very decent response as always from Stars.

Lets just hope they do something about it.

about the lee jones reply, i can say that these tools doesnt give any big advantage to the sharks thats why the games are so tough and also they are all fair and availiable to everyone so that really has no connection with the so big rake.

If we're going to relate this to fisheries, as a High School Geography teacher, I can tell you that the biggest problem with Canada's East and West Coast fisheries in the past 50 years has been overfishing. Instead of relating players to fish, let's relate money to fish, since there's only so much of it to go around.

Stars is "overfishing" the player base by taking too much rake.

If all the money is going to the site, the sit and gos collapse (like they've done at the 335s+ .. I could only get 1 going tonight).

As in the poker case, sure, technology is a problem, but it's not going away (are we supposed to forget ICM?) and it's not a big problem compared to overfishing. If Stars wants their high limit SNGs to be sustainable, they're going to have to reconsider their rake structure.
