It looks good if it plays out this way; but it probably won't. As an SEC fan I won't pity KU too much if they win out and don't play for it all as Auburn went undefeated in 04 and got shafted by a pretender OU.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not really the same thing. Auburn was one of three major UNDEFEATED teams, while right now KU trails two teams with one loss. If they were to run the table and not get in over someone like LSU or Oregon, it would be a much greater travesty than Auburn being the odd team out (although that sucked also!).

If Ohio State and Kansas win out, they play for the national title. I guarantee it. If Ohio State loses, as in the OP's scenario, but all the other current contenders win out, LSU is very likely to be Kansas' opponent, although there's a *small* chance that Oregon could sneak in if LSU is unconvincing enough for the pollsters to move Oregon up to the level of consensus #2. This is highly unlikely though, LSU definitely has the strong inside track, with Arkansas and the SEC Championship still on their schedule.

BJJ -

you feel LSU over Ore is fair? I don't see the order very likely to change if they both win out.

I don't feel I'm qualified to comment on the fairness of LSU over Oregon, as I'm a Duck fan. Obviously I don't want to see it. Objectively, I can break down the reality of how the BCS functions and say it's very likely. But fair? I'm not the one to ask.

I don't see Oregon passing LSU in the polls. I will not be happy if KU wins out and doesn't play for it all me being a Big 12 homer and all....but I don't think KU wins out anyways.

In your scenario I would rank them:

1. KU- Only undefeated team, won Big 12 North and beat OU in the championship game.

2. LSU- Going through the SEC with one loss is slightly more impressive than...

3. Oregon going through the Pac-10 with one loss.

4. Gotta put ASU here if their only loss is to the #3 team in this scenario.

5. OSU- Loss to Michigan a little more troubling than ASU losing to Oregon.

6. WVU- Loss to South Florida looks worse and worse as Bulls tumble.

7. BC- Should have lost to VT and get beat by a just ok FSU team.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is good.

However, I don't think that Kansas will win out. They'll fall in either the game against Mizzou or the B12 Championship game.

If everything else in the OP is right, that would leave Oregon and LSU, the two best teams IMO.

Unfortunately, the most likely scenario is OSU vs. either Oregon or LSU. In that case, it's a coin flip. I would go with Oregon but it will probably be LSU.

College football newbie here, what are the best bowls after the obvious championship game? Would be great if someone had a ranking.

Thanks

You've got Cotton too high. It doesn't pay as much as Cap One and the stadium is run down. It's not prestigious anymore (SEC 2 goes to Cap 1, SEC 3/4 goes to Cotton) plus where would you rather go bowling, Orlando or Dallas? The Cap 1 is at 1pm EST leading into the Rose Bowl on ABC. The Cotton is at 11 (10am local) on ESPN I think.

Because the top 4 are all BCS bowls, you could say they are all equal. If you go by conference affiliations, Orange is too high (ACC < SEC and ACC < Big 12), so I'd say Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, Orange.

Rose is #1 because of the long history. Fiesta is odd because it was a minor bowl until the mid 80s. Then it all of a sudden became one of the 4 biggest bowls.

But in reality, the 3 non-Rose Bowl BCS bowls rotate their choices. So last year year, Sugar was the most prestigious because it got the first pick of teams. But this year, the Orange Bowl gets the first pick.

Holiday Bowl too low. Even though it's not a Jan. Bowl, it pays more and lands better teams than your other 7th-rank bowls.
