Default ab workouts

They have this ab machine at my gym, and you can put a ton of weight on it. Can I just do a few sets at a a high weight, and call that my ab workout, or do I have to do a fuckton of crunches/situps also?

That works, but varying the ab exercises is always important. Remember, squats and deadlifts work those muscles as well, albeit indirectly. Try some yoga ball sit-ups, some elevated leg push-ups, and ab work using a cable cross machine.

Your abs are muscles just like any others. Do you work those out with hundreds of reps with no weight? Not usually. I'm a big proponent of weighted ab work, particularly on a decline bench with a plate. But like Kyle said, squats are so money for abs it isn't funny.

An addition, I see way too many people wasting way to much time doing crunches, situps, and all sorts of other "core work" garbage in the gym. They're either beanpoles or fat tubs of goo, both of which could be using their time much more effectively doing other things.

squats and stuff really do work your abs alot. I have great abs and I never do any ab work. maybe some situps every couple weeks.

Doing high reps will get you a flat stomach appearance (not a flat stomach) where as lower reps will get you more of the V form.

Remember though that for all the crunches you do, unless you are on a diet that will help you lose flat, You will still have the layer of fat over ur abs.
