More than you care to know, but it really depends on what the antidepressent type is....

Tricyclic antidepressents are about the most lethal overdose there is - one of the very few things that come into Emergency Departments that is an actual emergency. Treatable if early enough, but patients tend to crash rapidly and without warning.

The newer antidepressents, monocyclics and some others, are much less toxic. But some patients do better on the old tricyclic types, so they are still perscribed.

I've been an ER doc for just shy of 20 years - all at a busy trauma center. Almost nothing scares me - but a tricyclic OD is one of the things that does....

Do an "ask me about working in an ER" thread.

i have a question for you doc, since i see by your signature that you specialize in M&Ms

My M&M was doing fine, but then about a month ago I noticed some personality changes. Unusual irratibility and frequent bouts of exteme anger. It was only a week ago that I noticed the growth on the side you can see in the photo.

What should I do?

I don't get it. She was off limits because she took 22 pills and that earned her "don't make fun of her" rights?

Sure you may have "saved a life" but if you didn't [censored] with girl all the time maybe she wouldn't want to kill herself?

I'm so confused.
