Re: annoying dealer comments
I would have agreed with OP until just last night. I sat down for the first time in a "1-2-2 5 to go" NL game, and let me tell you, it was a rough 60 seconds. I sit down and they are taking time right then (because the seat I was filling was vacated by a dude who didn't want to play the next half hour). Ok, so I give up my 6 chips, whatever. Now I'm in the CO for the first hand and am told I have to post 5 to come in. The blinds are 1-2-2 and I have to post 5? Huh? And then someone starts saying "you have to post 5 and kill it or you can wait" but I had just paid time and didnt really want to wait 7 hands and to be honest I had no freaking clue what was going on. I tried asking the dealer for my "options" and she was not helpful. If she had just said "It's best to post now" that would have been great.
I eventually found out that all new players must post a $5 blind, which "kills" the pot and makes it 10 to go. Any other player may kill the pot at any time he likes. It's like straddling, only you can do it whenever you're not in the blinds. |

I've seen dealers tell people that it's better for them to wait for their blind as opposed to posting. I've also seen dealers tell people it's better to come in between the blinds as a new player than come in behind. They don't say "you have an option" and then present the choices. They are giving advice. This annoys me. Do you think this is proper dealer behavior? [/ QUOTE ] I am OK with this, so long as the dealer is giving sound advice (i.e. post in late position, wait in early position). When a newbie who's unfamiliar with posting sits down, this can be a better solution-- for all parties involved-- than slowing down the game so the dealer can explain all the options and the player can make a still-not-very-informed choice. |

Re: annoying dealer comments
If the player doesn't know when an obvious choice of option "A" is better than option "B," I think it's great the the dealer says something. It's often a player new to cardroom poker and if it helps them out, it's good for them, it's good for you, and it's good for the game.
Anyway, sometimes giving them an option is really giving advice. Often a dealer will say to a new player, who is UTG+2 or something, "You want to wait?", meaning, "I'm assuming you want to wait because this is not the best thing to do, to post here so close to the blind." The only thing a dealer ever does that annoys me is not pay attention. |

Re: annoying dealer comments
The "nice hand" kills me to no end and only tip the dealer $1 when I win a pot no matter the size if they nice hand. I usually follow with a "it wasn't nice for the person that just lost," to get my point across.
However, the worst at the Showboat a few night ago. This guy was playing and winning some pots small to medium in size. He was $1 tipper. During the game he talked about how he was a waiter and it was important to tip 20 percent to waiters. He made some comment about how he should get going cause he has a long drive home and he's up. The dealer says to him, "Well I'm shocked you any chips left the way you play." Players at the table were in shock and he drove the guy away who was pretty decent action. The dealer was mad because he only tipped $1/hand and according to the dealers, "It's his game. He can say whatever he wants." Sadly, dealers like this are making the game unenjoyable. I want to play poker and enjoy myself, not have to worry that dealers are going to drive action away. |
