Very few lappies will run one 30" monitor out of the box, basically only the MacBook Pro as far as I know, let alone 2. You are going to need some kind of external video card. Probably be better off getting a desktop.

find out whats the maximum resolution that 8600M can support on the external VGA/DVI port. For a 30" monitor, isnt that res 2500xsomething?

As kerowo says, most laptops have only one video output.

You need dual-link DVI to drive a 30" monitor. The Macbook Pro supports this. Don't know of any other laptop that does.

No laptop will drive dual 30" that I'm aware of.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce...techspecs.html

under tech specs it says "Advanced Display Functionality

* Dual-link DVI outputs for digital flat panel display resolutions up to 2560x1600"

does this mean it should support two 30' when i connect them both and close the lid, on the 1720 it has two different inputs.

No, only one, you would need two to power two monitors. I would double check with a salesperson that it will run a 30" monitor before you order it though.

it has two different inputs, the white one and the blue one, and the video card supports 2560x1600. why would it not support both?

i don't think you can send 2560x1600 pixels down a vga cable. even if you did, it would look awful.

having a laptop run even one 30" monitor is unusual.

running two is really pushing it; you'd need a very special setup to run two of those things even on a desktop.

Even the flagship laptops from elite companies like Falcon Northwest and Sager will not support dual 30" monitors.

Are you opposed to getting a desktop? If you're going to have $3000 in monitors, you might as well splurge an extra $500-800 on a desktop.
