Let's just presume that he was the best read person in history and had a photographic memory. Why does that bother you? Would you prefer to see him as a dullard?

Is everyone that ever wrote a book about Hitler or made a movie about him gloryfying him? Even Bruno Ganz the Jewish actor said he didn't hate Hitler. He said he would never be able to play the role of someone that he hated. There is an interview with him from the Downfall DVD.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agreed. If we assume that it is true why should it bother you? I don't think the OP is saying that this 'Hitler fella' was a good person. Don't be so sensitive. Hiter was a horrible horrible person, most people know this.

I have to admit that I'm fascinated by Hitler, not because I admire the guy but because of what he was able to accomplish.

Hitler's greatest skill was his oratory. Goebbel's handled the propoganda. Hitler was quite literally the greatest orator of all time. As David Bowie once said 'Adolf Hitler was the world's first rock star.'

He was indeed the first mass media superstar. I believe he was the first person to have screeching teenie bopppers try to mob him. It is strange, but true.

[/ QUOTE ]

Have you made any attempt to learn German so you could better appreciate his oratory skills untranslated?

microbet,

If a platoon of Israeli soldiers or a gang of neo-nazi's were to read this thread I am willing to bet that the latter would be more likely to want to kick my ass. And yet I almost certainly know way more about Hitler than they do.

Think about that.

I wouldn't care if he was the best read person and had a photographic memory. It would make no difference. He wasn't and he didn't, but even if he did those facts would be absolutely unknowable.

I wouldn't care if he could bench press 500lbs, but if he could only bench press 400lbs (still ridiculously good) and you said he could bench press 500lbs I would wonder why you said that.

Why would you exaggerate his skills? Why would you refer to him as "that Hitler fella?"

I'm not saying you are anti-semitic and you certainly aren't obliged to hate Hitler the way I do. Honestly, I'm pissed off, but not really at you.

I'm not going to post in this thread anymore.

No, he was practically an anti-alcholic. But Goering was a huge wine collector. In the History channel mini-series Band of Brothers there is a scene of them discovering his massive wine cellar.

I said:

As a child I noticed that his name seemed to be synonomous with 'evil.' It is the only name you can drop in a room full of people and cause everyone to fall silent and stare at you. No other name, not Ghengis Khan, Jesus, Einstein, Stalin, or Napoleon has this effect.

I figured if I could understand this Hitler fella then I could understand anyone and have a better grasp of the human condition as a whole. I am not a racist or a National Socialist, my interest is merely in Hitler as a persona."

You see I was using the innocent connotation of referring to the Harbinger of Death as "fella" because I was viewing the awkward silences associated with his name from a childhood perspective.

Excellent thread.

As someone said earlier, OP should have his star removed.

holy lord you suck at this internet thing.

Wow, really? So I guess John Von Neumann didn't have a photographic memory and all those things about him are made up?
