So this has been beaten to death, but how do people react to this turn bet? Villian is dumb but not in this particular way.

Re: 1020 nutflush under pressure on unpaired board deepish
no, the Ace high flush is always the "nut flush". It is the nut flush on a paired board and it is the nut flush on this board. What I don't have is the nuts.

ok, fwiw, fold your [censored] hand...I don't see what he could be repping unless he is totally moving with air or a set...sorry for the error in symantics

Re: 1020 nutflush under pressure on unpaired board deepish
You got da second nuts. Folding would be silly. You've got position, so smoothcall here and if you get a chance probably check behind the river. Unless he's not tricky enough to checkraise and will pay you off with worse.

Re: 1020 nutflush under pressure on unpaired board deepish
it's actually kind of interesting as a question, since both 37 and 78 are the nuts here, the only important factor being that there's another possible combination of cards that beats me.
are there any other interesting semantic questions we can derive from this hand? |

Re: 1020 nutflush under pressure on unpaired board deepish
Well, I don't mean to be a nit but according to About.com the "Poker Defintion: The Nuts" is "Definition: The absolute best possible hand in any given hand of poker. The unbeatable, unbreakable hand."
Nuts The best possible hand given the board. (http://www.conjelco.com/pokglossary.html) nut (http://www.poker1.com/mcu/pokerdicti...ctionary_n.asp) 4. (adj) In hold 'em, pertaining to the best possible hand at a given point in a pot; usually followed by flush or straight, sometimes by high or low. For example, if four spades are on the board, whoever has the ace of spades as one of his hole cards has the nut flush. If A K 9 8 are on the board, whoever has the queen of spades as one of his hole cards has the nut flush. If 9 8 7 3 2 are on the board, whoever has any T-J has the nut straight. So yes, i have quote completely random sources but they all seems to state the same thing. The nut card(s) or nuts is the best possible hand available. So in your particular situation you would have the 3rd nut hand as 7h,3h, is the second and 7h,8h is the absolute nuts. Perhaps i'm a donk and completely wrong, but not according to about.com, and theres something to be said about that. |

Re: 1020 nutflush under pressure on unpaired board deepish
Not really. This is the nuts a certain % of the time, you're in a better spot than if you had AT [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], and I think you see a cheap showdown on the river enough of the time to call the turn. Villain could have a hand like 97[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]66 and be semibluffing or putting you to the test in case you're pulling the bare ace play/plain old bluffing.
