making iced green tea
I always hated tea and was a stubborn coffee drinker for the past few years. However, at night I have been drinking green tea, and despite feeling really metro, I enjoy it. I still do not like those fake sweetened iced green teas though. This summer it will be hot and I will want my tea to be cold, thus I need to learn to make my own.
Questions: 1. Do any of you make your own green tea? 2. What brand do you use? 3. Does it taste as good cold? TY in advance. |

Re: making iced green tea
I picked up an 8oz tin of loose green tea at the local chinese supermarket (ranch 99) for ten bucks. I forget the brand name, but higher end stuff will have fewer stems and crap. At three cups a day, five days a week at work, I'm halfway through it after two months, so it lasts a while.
It's not bad cold. The jasmine kind is better hot, since the flavor gets cloying after a few cups. The regular tastes pretty decent cold. Also makes a mean ice cream. |

Re: making iced green tea
i just make the generic grocery store brand and like the taste fine. i hate coffee and dont care for warm tea.
i think people get way too snobby about what brand they are drinking and can spend way too much. i suppose there are differences in flavors but the more expensive ones do not taste better--just different. bwana |

Re: making iced green tea
Try www.adagio.com. I buy a lot of tea here and it is all very good. If you want a decent green tea at a decent price, try the apricot green or dragonwell (this is my personal favorite)--it may seem kind of expensive, but a pound of tea will probably make 100-150 cups of tea or more (depending on how you brew it). If you're actually interested in ordering, I think you used to be able to send new customers $5 gift certificates, so you could PM me.

I think grocery store tea tastes pretty bad compared to the teas you get at a tea shop/online store. |

Re: making iced green tea
well, it's completely a matter of taste, so I guess you can't really be wrong. I think good tea is like a lot of other things in that it is probably an acquired taste--I used to drink nothing but grocery store tea and thought it tasted fine. Now I think it tastes pretty mediocre.
