Default Anyone else miss Andy Glazer\'s WSOP reporting?

I was thinking about the mediocre state of this year's WSOP reporting and realized that, more than anything, I miss Andy Glazer (link to Wikipedia bio) and his somewhat-corny-but-heartfelt writing style. For several key years leading up to the present poker boom, Andy and fellow writer Mike Paulle were the written voice of poker.

For those too new to poker to know the backstory, Andy was a popular poker writer whose nightly recapping WSOP final tables really helped capture the feel of the WSOP, back in the pre-Moneymaker/pre-boom days. His reports were typically upbeat, and it was obvious that he cared a lot about poker. Unfortunately, his demons got the better of him, and he took his own life in 2004.

I never knew him personally, only through his writing. From reading others' accounts following his passing, it sounds like he could be prickly and moody in person; so be it. He had a nice touch as a writer, and his writing really helped bring out the personal elements in the events he covered.

RIP, Andy. The Series is bigger since you've passed, but the writing/reporting is a hell of a lot worse. You are missed.

He was a nice guy, I used to read his and Phil Hellmuths website back in the day. I submitted a couple questions and he always took the time to write back.

He was a great guy, couldn't have been friendlier in person or via e-mail to a total stranger.

His FT reports will never be approached, and his commentaries are sorely missed.

RIP, Andy.

I have to agree he was very informative, and truly missed for the way he reported on the Series and any event.

Sweet guy. Faithful correspondent. Good writer. His reporting of the 2000 WSOP is what turned me on to the game. He is missed by me every year at this time. I'm glad others remember him as well.

he always will be the premier tournament reporter in my mind, he could illustrate a scene perfectly into words
and was an excellent player himself so he knew all of the
parts of the puzzle to writing about poker
