Default IE7 Problem

When I start up IE7, it appears to be frozen for about 45-90 seconds. Generally, the green progress bar at the bottom just gets stuck halfway and during this time, I can't click any buttons such as Bookmarks, a new tab, stuff like that. FWIW, my internet connection is extremely fast, and zips through everything once I get through this "frozen" state.

I think this has something to do with the firewall, but I'm not entirely sure.

Is this true when you open IE for a local file as well as a web one? Does it happen to Firefox? Do you have a good reason for using IE instead of Firefox?

P.S. willw, are you some sort of computer-problem cartel, where a whole apartment complex agreed to post their tech issues under one 2+2 account?
