If you lend him the money, you are encouraging moral hazard. So in the long run, you are doing him, and the world, a disservice. For you guys who don't know what moral hazard is:

i don't think i can summon any moral outrage and condescension when some idiot steals from a large faceless corporation. granted, it doesn't make it right but im bailing a friend out almost everytime.

Why do people keep talking about this as if the thief is OP's friend? He's more like the sketchy friend of a friend (who clearly isn't much of a friend to put OP on the spot like this).

I like the fact that there were 100 posts telling the OP to say no when the OP had already responded and basically moved on with their life.

By the way how exactly do you steal $6K from a company before you get caught? They balance the tills every night, this should have been noticed far sooner.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just from my experience: an ex-employer caught someone taking money out of the register the first time she did it. They documented her taking enough to charge her with a felony and had her arrested on a shift. I'm sure they got their money back as well.

In this case, they just wanted to make an example out of a thief. But it is possible that there was more to it than sloppy bookkeeping or something similar.

i'd loan 6k to for this, i would be willing to contribute a few hundred as part of a group for a lot of people.

[/ QUOTE ]

It is much easier to get 1 sucker to help you than to ask 30 people to loan you a few hundred dollars each so that you don't go to jail for stealing.

Is this something common? Since when do you get a time limit to repay stolen goods before you go to jail? Especially 6k?

If not, as I said, it sounds like a scam.

[/ QUOTE ]

lol seriously. i'd do this every month, stick it in an interest bearing account, pay it back, repeat.
