Important Ticketmaster tip: if you need multiple tickets and the website tells you there are no more left in that price range, try ordering the tickets one at a time. You probably won't be able to sit together, though, obv. I got myself 4 tickets for Aug 3 in NYC.

I'm a little slow, I get it now. Basically another way to jack up the ticket prices by $25.

I'm not a fan of the group, but it's my understanding amongst a lot of their fans that this isn't that big of a deal because Sting has been going around doing all of their original songs for years, anyway. So, having the background members back doesn't mean all that much to even some of their most hardcore fans. Is this true?

Truth - Not for me it isn't.

I saw Sting in 88, 90 and 96.
He played some of his Police songs of course.
But this isn't nearly the same as him getting back together with the group and playing the songs with the same kind of Police intensity.

On his tours supporting his other albums he would cover Roxanne in a very ballad like way much of the time. Same for Meggage in a Bottle.

After watching their performance at the Grammys I get the feeling that they are going to be sounding similar to how they did in the late 70's and early 80's.

They'll likely be playing stuff ranging from So Lonely to Synchronicty to Don't Stand So Close that Sting never played in any of the shows I saw.
Maybe he played even more Police on other tours. But I kind of doubt it.

In short, I've seen Sting solo and enjoyed his shows just fine.
But I've never seen the Police and I've been looking forward to this kind of Police reunion tour for a long freaking time.

I think anybody who says, "I saw Sting live. He played some Police songs. That's pretty much the same thing" isn't really much of a Police fan.

I saw the Police in 1983 at Hollywood Park race track. Thompson Twins, Berlin, and The Fixx also played. Awesome show. We got there early and got on the race track right in front of the stage. Brings back memories.

Can't wait for an LA show. Glad I know someone who works for Ticketmaster

TY for clearing that up for me and being the only person to give some thought to responding to my question. Your answer makes a lot of sense to me. Like I said in my OP, I don't really know the band or anything, that's just what I heard.

I would be inclined to agree with this, but nonetheless, some of the people who I heard this from claimed to be Police fans FWIW.
