strikingly, no conference has been a huge embarrassment

seems like the "best" conference should have more than 1 sweet 16 team.

yes, but it's not a huge letdown
they had two 4 seeds fall to 5 seeds
it's not like they choked on the big one

I disagree. The ACC teams have invariably looked pretty poor. Massive overrating. SEC looks great and the Pac10 with a real nice showing also.

Ohio State obviously has the hardest game, because they suck.

Massive overrating? We had 1 1 seed, 2 4 seeds, 1 5 seed, 1 6 seed, 1 7 seed, 1 10 seed. The 1 seed as performed admirabily, the rest have been slightly disappointing. But BC gave GT a fight, UNLV was obviously pretty good, and the 4/5 games were up for grabs. The expected was 3 s16 teams, 1 made it. I'm slightly disappointed in the ACC but it wasn't that awful. It's not like the ACC had a couple of 2 or 3 seeds go down really early.

This year or through the years Clark? In what ways do you think the ACC is being over-hyped?

This year.

Any time the discussion comes up on ESPN, or even on these forums, it's invariably "The ACC is clearly the best conference." Small sample size and all, but on neutral courts the ACC teams have looked poor.

Dook was exhausted and out of gas vs. VCU.
Maryland struggled badly in round 1 vs. Davidson before losing to a Butler team that came in playing poorly.
Tech basically handled by UNLV.
Virginia beaten by a better Tenn team.
Va Tech basically crushed twice, adjusting for Weber ineptitude.
BC played well vs. Town, a legit effort.
Even Carolina was inexplicably in a dogfight, at home, vs. a poor MSU team for 35 minutes.

Everyone on this board said the MSU game would be tough. They kept saying we were facing a top 20 team (kenpom) and it was tough. Was this unexpected? Nope. They have a really good coach. Who other than Maryland was expected to do big things from the rest of the ACC? I know most people didn't think very much of Virginia or Tech. I know a couple of people liked GT, but really. ACC had parity this year. In years past it has been very top heavy. With Duke falling, there was parity, but I don't think many people expected 5 S16 teams.

UVA as a 4 was idiotic, they should have been a 7, VTech as a 5 was too high, Maryland probably should have been a 5 instead of a 4. GTech in the tournament at all was dumb. UVA and VTech were severely overranked in the bracket. Other than the SEC most power conferences havent done very well so it is hard to say, but the Big 10 is obviously the worst/most overrated.

Hmmmm,OK. From your post it seemed like you held these views before the NCAAs started (and maybe you did). I certainly feel that the league underachieved this week and the results may speak to the league being overrated in a way.

Let's go look at the "post your bracket" thread. I bet that the average # ACC teams in the S16 is closer to 3 than 1.

FTR, I loved UNC vs. MSU, and happily layed 9 vs. a terrible road team. But it really bodes poorly long-term that UNC allowed an offensively inept MSU to score at will against them.
