Re: Rents want me to get \"real\" job
If you are going to live at home, you will have to do what your parents say. If you want to continue living there, get a job. If you want to just play poker, get an apartment. You could be very tricky and work 2 nights a week at a restaurant somehwere and lie saying you work more, so you have a full time job in their eyes but are actually going out with your friends when you are at "work." This is not recommended however, and your best option is discussing this with your parents and not asking the internet what to do.

Re: Rents want me to get \"real\" job
Just get some mindless part-time job. You'd only havta work 15-20 hours/week.
This gives you plenty of time to play poker, appeases your parents, and gives you something to put on a resume (not something great, but better than a blank spot). |

Re: Rents want me to get \"real\" job
Start making it look like you're doing something. Me personally: I did chores everyday unasked, wore normal clothes and not my PJ's, quit saying I've gotta go play and start saying I've got to go to work, etc. Worked pretty good.

Re: Rents want me to get \"real\" job
Get an internship.
Looks good for interviews in the coming years. I am sure you will ship more money that way in the long run (as soon as you graduate with a baller job) too. |

Re: Rents want me to get \"real\" job
I'm in the same situation you are.
I play poker and make lots more than my normal job. But alas, I live under my parent's roof. My dad told me I had to get a job this summer, or leave (I think). I complied and turned to a job I had when I was in high school (subway foods). It's not TOO bad of a deal I wouldnt think. Working like 20 hours a week to appease your parents is a fair tradeoff for a roof over your head, food, and utilities. I considered moving out as well, as there are many restrictions my dad/mom have imposed on me. But in the end, I just decided to suck it up and get a part time job. You should ask yourself what the trade off would be between moving out/leaving your house/not getting a job. Do your parents help with college? (this was a main factor for me). what do they think? just some Qs to ask yourself. |
