New To The Forum + a tough 10/20 spot
I just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Michael Katz. I have been a consistent winner at cash games in Atlantic City for 3 years. I have recently moved out to Vegas with a few other poker players for the summer. I am a regular at the 10/20 NL game at the Bellagio and play some tournaments. I look forward to gaining insight through posting on 2+2.
Here is a hand that I played yesterday at 10/20... I had 5600 in front of me and the villan had 6500. The villan is fairly tight, however I had made an all-in move against him the previous day, so he could think I am a young maniac. I open raised from the hijack with 44 to $80. The cutoff called. The villan called on the button and both blinds saw the flop. The flop came A 4 5 rainbow. It was checked to me and I bet $300. The cutoff folded and the villan raised to $720. It was folded back to me and I just called. The turn was an offsuit 7. I checked and the villan bet 1100. I pushed all in for 3700 more. Is this standard or is there another way to play the hand. Thank You... |

Re: New To The Forum + a tough 10/20 spot
If I recall correctly wasn't the villain calling preflop in mid position with both the cutoff and button calling behind him as well as the two blinds?

Re: New To The Forum + a tough 10/20 spot
The problem I see here is that the villain can only call your push with 55 or the unlikely but possible AA and should fold AK to your representation of a set. I see no value in the push as he can only call you with better. If you put him on AK then the question you must ask yourself is "will this player call my large check-raise with AK?" in this spot. Lastly is the villain capable of bluffing? If that is a possibility then weighing all factors I think check calling might be a better approach.

I 3bet the flop a lot to protect the times I 3bet here as a bluff. Your line is also perfectly good.

Re: New To The Forum + a tough 10/20 spot
I'd like this alot more if this was a drawy board. I just have a hard time seeing villian calling with a worse hand. What hand does he put you on when you shove? your hand seems relatively face up to me when you push unless villian thinks your a complete maniac). I say call the turn and lead the river (say $1600).
