Dividing internet bandwidth
Ok here is the problem, sometimes my roommate decides to download an xbox 360 demo, and it just eats up all bandwidth, some sites still perform ok after that (pokerstars), but some simply become unplayable (ladbrokes). Isn't there a way to make it that 50kb for example is always free for my pc? I have a linksys wrt54g router btw.

Re: Dividing internet bandwidth
You'll need to get some special kind of proxy software that lets you control bandwitdth and force him to go through that to get to the Internet. The router itself does not have that kind of control.

I have a linksys wrt54g router btw. [/ QUOTE ] That should have some form of QoS options in it's setup pages - check these out. If they are not powerful enough, you can get 3rd party firmwares to enhance this router. QoS = "Quality of Service". As an example, you should be able to set it to always reserve a minimum 25% of available bandwidth especially for your MAC/IP address. That should work. |

Re: Dividing internet bandwidth
sometimes the downloading program will have a bandwidth allocator. Try bumping it down from Unlimited to like 50kbs.
