Default AC Taxi information and other questions

Friends who have a place in Ventnor invited my wife and me to spend the Fourth of July weekend with them on the "Jersey Shore." While this will be mostly a beach vacation, I do want to get in a few hours of play in the AC casinos. I am trying to decide whether or not to rent a car. (My friends tell us there is no need, as they will pick up and drop us at the airport, take us where ever, etc., but none of them are poker players, so I don't want them hovering in the casino while I am playing.)

My main question is this:

Are taxis readily available at the casinos and via telephone pick up in Ventnor? What should I expect the fare to be, including tip?

Also, I intend on playing limit hold 'em up to 5-10. I am thinking I would confine my play to the Borgata, but am open to other suggestions.

I might want to take a shot at the Trop "pink chip" game. When does that run and is it as juicy as I used to read it was?

Do any of the AC poker rooms have call ahead seating? (I probably could search for that, but as long as I am already asking these other questions, what the heck.)

You won't have any trouble finding a cab at a casino. I haven't taken one to Ventnor, but I can't imagine it being more than $10 from The Trop..

1. You will have no problem finding a taxi at any of the casinos. Just head out to the valet parking areas, usually located near the hotel entrance. You should also have no problem obtaining a taxi from Ventnor to Atlantic City.

A taxi will cost you approximately $10 to the Tropicana, and around $20 to the Taj Mahal, maybe $25 to Borgata. Note that you are not subject to the $11 maximum charge because you will be coming from/going to outside the city.

If you play at Borgata - consider taking the taxi to the Tropicana and taking a jitney ($2) to Borgata.

If you play at Trump Taj - consider taking the taxi to the Tropicana and taking a jitney ($2) to Trump Taj, or walk the boardwalk (about 20-30 minutes).

(Maybe your friends would be willing to drive you to the Tropicana - it is not that far away. Then you are on your own if you plan to go to Borgata or Trump Taj)

2. Borgata and Trump Taj are two of the best for 5/10 Limit. Tropicana is almost always running the "pink game" on the weekends. Some of the other casinos barely spread anything higher then 2/4 limit.

3. Never played it - but usually watch it during tournament breaks. I am sure there are other 2+2 forum members who can provide information on this game.

4. To the best of my knowledge, none of the casinos have call-ahead seating. You can always call and find out what games are spreading or see if there is an interest list, but I do not think they will reserve a seat. Maybe if there are 8 of 10 seats taken at your game of choice, if there is no list, the room is not that busy, you tell them you are on your way, and if the floor is nice, they may hold your seat for a little while - but this would be very rare.

When I was at the Borgata twice recently they had 3/6 and 6/12 limit holdem, no 5/10. The Trop has 4/8 and 7.50/15 (pink chip game).

Re limits:

Taj has 2/4 and 5/10 for certain, I'm pretty sure they have 3/6, but I'm getting old

Borgata has 2/4, 3/6, 6/12. 6/12 is a bit erratic as to when it will go (its not a round-the-clock game). The lower two are.

I have absolutely no idea about call ahead seating...silly me never had that thought occur lol (ie I'm interested too).

I use call ahead far all of the rooms that I go to locally (Potawatomie in Milwaukee and Resorts or Majestic Star in NW Indiana.)

One more question, is smoking permitted in any of these rooms? My preference is for the non-smoking rooms.

Thanks again for the help.

If you can get a ride or walk to the AC/Ventnor line (Jackson Ave. and Ventnor Ave.), you can pick up a Jitney there. That's what I do when I stay in Ventnor.

Also, a cab from the Borgata or the Taj to Ventnor will be closer to $20 than $10.

Thanks. Where does this drop off in AC? Also, what are the hours of operation? I think I will be doing most of my playing in the late night hours (when my wife and others will probably be sleeping.) Is this a viable alternative then?
