Re: A silly but serious question ? prop bet.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Plus the players are running more than 90ft between bases. [/ QUOTE ] how much is it then? I'm not a baseball fan, as you can tell. [/ QUOTE ] He notes that it's more than 90 feet because of the arc the runners will take around the bases. Ironically, even if they both did the full loop from home to home, Reyes would probaly run a little farther because his speed would make it so a wider arc would be more a efficient route for him to take. Instinctively, good baserunners find the path that has the "least" arc while still ensuring they don't lose any speed at 2nd or 3rd. Thomas is so slow he could probably approach 2nd at a right angle and it would actually save him time (lol..just kidding, but only slightly...). |

Re: A silly but serious question ? prop bet.
[ QUOTE ]
Obviously, Reyes can run through home, but does Frank have to "stop" at third (like you would in a game)? If he has to slow up and stay on the bag, Reyes has to have the advantage. Even if Thomas just has to run through third, it's close. [/ QUOTE ] No, he can run through 3rd. It would be cruel to ask that train to come to a dead stop. |

Re: A silly but serious question ? prop bet.
I envision it this way.
- Reyes beats Thomas to first by a step (or two.) - Reyes hits second as Thomas is halfway to second. - Reyes hits third, flying now, as Thomas is 1/3 of the way to third, and limping. - Reyes dives in headfirst, because he can, and Thomas dies near shortstop. |

Re: A silly but serious question ? prop bet.
Wouldn't it be far simpler to word the question this way?:
Reyes starts at home plate; Thomas starts with a 10-foot lead off of first base. Which player gets around the bases and reaches home first? |

Re: A silly but serious question ? prop bet.
Isn't there the chance Reyes slows down due to such a huge lead?

Re: A silly but serious question ? prop bet.
300 pound NFL lineman can run a 4.9s 40 yard dash. Speedy WRs can run a 4.4s 40. Obv this is a 120 foot straight line race and not a longer race with turns, but the difference between a big fat man and a speed burner here is more like 10% than 35%.

Re: A silly but serious question ? prop bet.
say we round it to 400 feet vs 300 ft to account for arc.
some times for reyes: 20 MPH (29.3 feet/sec) = 13.6s 18 MPH (26.3 feet/sec) = 15.2s 16 MPH (23.4 feet/sec) = 17.1s world record speed for a 200m sprint was a little under 23 MPH, i don't know how far off that reyes would be. for thomas: 14 MPH = 14.67 seconds 12 MPH = 17.12 seconds 10 MPH = 20.54 seconds thomas may well be slower than 10 MPH, i don't know. i'm going reyes on this one. |

[/ QUOTE ] except that thomas is probably slower than the average NFL lineman, and having to make turns and run for over 300 feet makes it much harder on him. |
