General Questions--Reading a player
I'm coming to stud from a background of multi-tabling full ring NL hold'em, so my reading skills haven't been quite as honed as they should be due to that fact.
Given one needs (no choice) to pay closer attention to the cards/action, what are the types of things you tend to note first about a player? These are probably similar to all forums of poker (ie does he never fold, etc), but are there ones you find more valuable? "Won't fold a paired door card, no matter what happens" "Doesn't raise with less than trips" Etc |

Re: General Questions--Reading a player
Here are the things I note at the 1/2 level
-players who will limp big pairs on 3rd -players who always/never raise with draws on 4th -players who will play any pair on 3rd -players who can raise with A/K and not actually have a split pair |

Re: General Questions--Reading a player
I think most important at the low limits are the extremes. Who is playing every hand and won't fold? That is the guy you bet your jacks on the river against when they don't improve. Who is the guy who doesn't raise his aces until he made two pair or the guy who won't bet a 4 flush? Who is the guy that raises 50% of the hands at the table?? Sit at his left and pop him when you have a hand until he goes
broke, etc. Edit: stud has a much smaller player pool...just putting in the time will give you a much stronger advantage as you see the same people every day. |
