Re: Book of Bluffs by Matt Lessinger
I got this book for free from some site (maybe stars, don't really remember). Nothing ground-breaking, it's not gonna change the way you look at poker, but there were some common sense helpful things that I picked up from it. My only gripe with it is that it wasn't a fun or fast read, I had to almost force myself to get through it.

Re: Book of Bluffs by Matt Lessinger
It took me a while to get into this book, but once I did it was a lot of help. This subject is surprisingly neglected in poker literature. It is definitely worth a read.

This subject is surprisingly neglected in poker literature. [/ QUOTE ] Wonder if it's because the authors know that the majority of readers are beginner/low stakes players and that bluffing will work so seldom for them that it isn't worth the time or confusion. |

Re: Book of Bluffs by Matt Lessinger
It's a worthwhile read. It's nice to have an organized "encyclopedia" of bluffing scenarios to draw from. If you are a player who plays strictly by feel, instinct, and table tells, then you might not want this book. If you're a player who wonders what bluffing opportunities you're missing out on and common themes or scenarios to catalog away for reference at the table, this is a good book to read.

I like the 72o on the cover, though.

Re: Book of Bluffs by Matt Lessinger
I found this useful, but not entirely for the obvious reasons. The catalog of bluffs is interesting and may be useful. I liked them if for no other reason than to make sure I wasn't missing any opportunities.
However what I found most interesting was his discussion on betting patterns and how players are different. This was discussed in the context of realizing which people require a 2 or 3 barrel bluff before they'll fold, but it got me thinking about betting patterns in a new light. |

Re: Book of Bluffs by Matt Lessinger
I bought this book when it first came out two years ago, lost it since and haven't bothered to pick it back up.
The beginning says that the book will pay for itself when you learn to bluff two pots. The problem with the book is that you stand to lose more money attempting to make some of these bluffs. The subject is not that neglected, it's that many people want to make it more difficult than it is. Mason gave it a 3, I think. |
