Default Re: Need BJ Removed from UB

I've had the same problems at sites that allowed blackjack (i.e. Party, Absolute). While I still come out quite a bit ahead playing I know I have a problem with blackjack as it became too easy to just click the button and I would hide/unhide the button. And, added to the fact that its turbo blackjack and money flies around insanely fast unlike playing at brick and mortar tables where its more sociable game I really wanted to quit.

Simple solution: Move to a site that doesn't have BJ. I play exclusively at Stars and Full Tilt.

Anyone who could answer 7 yes has a problem, perhaps not seroius, but they do have a problem and should consider stopping gambling.

[/ QUOTE ]

Really? lets see

1. Did you ever lose time from work or school due to gambling?

Well, not sure if this qualifies as a yes, but if poker IS work, or a part time job, I guess so

2. Has gambling ever made your home life unhappy?

No

3. Did gambling affect your reputation?

Yes. We’ve all dealt with those individuals who do not understand that some forms of gambling are +EV. Gamblers anonymous is in many ways responsible for this view

4. Have you ever felt remorse after gambling?

Sure. I feel sad when I lose. I feel happy when I win. I know we all say that we shouldn’t and maybe someone will chime in saying “I never feel sad. I’m a zen robot about poker and the 989-1 bad beats just roll off me”. Congratulations. I’m a human though

5. Did you ever gamble to get money with which to pay debts or otherwise solve financial difficulties?

Ummm. Yes. How again is this a problem? Oh that’s right, it’s a problem for all those people who try to do so and lose.

6. Did gambling cause a decrease in your ambition or efficiency?

No.

7. After losing did you feel you must return as soon as possible and win back your losses?

No

8. After a win did you have a strong urge to return and win more?

LOL. Yes, when fish are giving their money away, I like to get while the getting is good.

9. Did you often gamble until your last dollar was gone?

My very very last dollar. No. I’ve bust my bankroll once though. Does that count?

10. Did you ever borrow to finance your gambling?

No

11. Have you ever sold anything to finance gambling?

No

12. Were you reluctant to use "gambling money" for normal expenditures?

LOL. They call that bankroll management. Yes

13. Did gambling make you careless of the welfare of yourself or your family?

No.

14. Did you ever gamble longer than you had planned?

Yes. We never can tell when a really juicy game is gonna come along

15. Have you ever gambled to escape worry or trouble?

No. Unless bills count

16. Have you ever committed, or considered committing, an illegal act to finance gambling?

No. Unless you count online poker

17. Did gambling cause you to have difficulty in sleeping?

No

18. Do arguments, disappointments or frustrations create within you an urge to gamble?

No

19. Did you ever have an urge to celebrate any good fortune by a few hours of gambling?

No

20. Have you ever considered self destruction or suicide as a result of your gambling?

No

Well depending on what you count I have a yes on as many as ten. I can think of a few successful pros who would answer even more.

More to the point, substitute another word for gambling. Maybe "golf" for tiger woods, or "work" for the average joe putting in 9-5. Does Tiger have a Golfing problem? Does my father have a Carpentry problem?

You better read read those questions.

I assume you're not saying you can beat the game, just that you have come out ahead so far?

UB blackjack is -EV. It cannot be beaten in the long-run. So, if you are seriously afraid of losing your bankroll to it, I would say you have a serious problem. Poker, real estate and investing are different animals (regardless of whether the idiots at GA can make that distinction) in that with proper research and effort, they can be profitable in the long-run. Even if you use perfect basic strategy at UB blackjack, you will lose in the end.

[/ QUOTE ]

Obviously.

Nowhere in this thread have I stated that -EV Blackjack isn't a problem for me. I only mean to say that I don't have a Gambling problem (or believe in such a thing), and that a cult like GA is certainly not an appropriate solution to my situation. Judging by this thread so far, I'm sure many will be confused by this, or will think it is a contradiction. I'm not sure what else to say about it that I haven't already.

Anyways... As nobody has presented me with an easy software fix in this thread, I guess I'll have to take the other advice and uninstall UB altogether. I'll miss the rakeback but I always enjoy playing on Stars.

Maybe I'll also send an email UB's way and see if they can solve the problem for me.

LOL. I was sure this was sarcasm until I realized that you were the guy I was responding to in the first place.

Really? I have a serious gambling problem and should seek help? You seen so certain. You have no doubt at all about this?

Elaborate please. What about my responses to the GA quiz makes you so sure.

Actually though, I should tell you it's even worse than you think. I can even answer yes to a couple I hadn't realized earlier.

Way back in the early days of online poker I funded my initial deposits with a credit card so it looks like I have borrowed money to finance gambling. That's another yes.

Being honest, I guess playing poker has been an escape from worry. Much like playing pool or swimming or camping, things I enjoy have this effect. I suppose it's not really my main objective when I play, but that's probably another yes

I am not being rhetorical here. Please elaborate

now I think I get it

Some of you just cannot fathom how anyone who can be tempted by blackjack could be winning at poker, and though nobody is saying it, those who think I have a gambling problem also believe me to be a loser at poker. That would at least explain some of the insanity in this thread.

Would you like me to also point you in the direction of a few long standing professionals who have had their issues with craps and BJ while I am at it?

Is playing established +EV poker players your own private vice?

Hi. I need to have Blackjack removed from UB. Somebody Direct me to a fix before I gamble my whole roll away

Embarrassing, but necessary.

[/ QUOTE ]

After reading through this thread, I'll be blunt.

You have a problem. This isn't about Poker, or GA. You have a problem with blackjack, a -EV gambling game.

You have been given several options
1. Just don't push the button.
You are apparently incapable of doing this
2. Hide the button from the menu.
You are also incapable of doing this and keeping it hidden
3. See if UB will block you from blackjack.
You have not tried this
4. Don't play at a site that offers blackjack.
You also seem unwilling/unable to do this.

Three of the four suggestions you are unable/unwilling to do. You have a problem.

Seek professional help...

...or don't, whatever. Lose your roll to a stupid addiction. I'm not going to argue with you.

Hate to be blunt, but you seem unwilling to accept the advice in this thread, and more intent on getting defensive about your inability to control yourself with blackjack.

Yes, Baize you seem to have a problem with -EV games, but I do think switching to Stars or Tilt is an acceptible solution.
Similarily, I have a problem with cookies/cake etc. I just don't keep them in the house and it seems to work for me. Sometimes just making things a little inconvenient is enough. However, if you find yourself compulsively re-installing the software and depositing just to play blackjack then it's probably time to head over to GA. I doubt you'll get to that point.

I scored a 7 on that quiz and I'm a square who is overbankrolled. I'm not much of a gambler at heart and if I ever need to kill time at a casino, I play the quarter video poker machines and just expect to lose what I put in (<$5). I played super-tight most of my poker career because I didn't like the idea of playing hands I thought might be unprofitable. Somehow I scored a 7. If you haven't scored at least 6, I don't think you've ever played poker.
