Free To Choose
http://www.ideachannel.tv/
this is probably the greatest thing thing ever. One of my favourite quotes from this extraordinary series : "If I had to choose between the government in charge of the mail and government in charge of the schools, I'd rather put the government in charge of the main, because then all that happens is some of our letters get lost. With the government in charge of schools some of our children don't learn to read." The example of Hong King is positively amazing as an example of what free markets can do. |

Re: Free To Choose
Come on man the only way ALL children are going to learn to read in school is if some teachers put guns to the students heads and parents got more involved in the teaching of their kids.
Educators actually advise parents not to let their children get to far ahead when they are young so they don't get bored in class. Which problably prevents some young einstiens from ever achieving their full potential. The free market cannot solve the problem of ALL children living up to their full potential. But to be fair to you and you philosophy I don't think any system COULD. Also what does your free market say about children who just don't have the learning capacity to learn to read. Would the free market allow children with 45 IQ's learn to read and do Physics ?????? |

Oh they can, so long as they're not poor. [/ QUOTE ] Some religious schools charge $1/month tuition and others that are prohibitively expensive provide scholarships for the indigent. If AC needs is going to accomodate educational choice for those who can't afford it, through the hypothetical charities, I assume. |

Re: Free To Choose
Free markets provide the poor with better, cheaper goods. This includes services like education. The most important services are the ones that should be a part of the free market BECAUSE they are so important.
