Default NL5 Flopped Straight, Flushing Board and Chatbox Action+Overbet

Party Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.02/$0.04 Blinds - 9 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)

SB: $1.72
BB: $4.96
UTG: $8.37
UTG+1: $4.74
MP1: $9.31
Hero (MP2): $5.06
MP3: $1.40
CO: $2.37
BTN: $5.22

Preflop: Hero is dealt 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (9 Players)
2 folds, MP1 calls $0.04, Hero calls $0.04, 2 folds, BTN calls $0.04, SB calls $0.02, BB checks

Flop: ($0.20) 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 Players)
SB bets $0.04, BB folds, MP1 raises to $0.08, Hero raises to $0.34, 2 folds, MP1 calls $0.26

I was argueing with this guy about a previous hand, and he seemed to be convinced, that he is a really great NL5 poker-superstar.

Turn: ($0.92) K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players)
MP1 checks, Hero checks

After my check he says "Oh, someone fears the flush"
River: ($0.92) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players)
MP1 bets $2.00, Hero ???

Pot Size: $2.92

Given the overbet and his speech I thought he is either bluffing or holding the flush.

Weak means strong and strong means weak, in this situation his bet is strong but his talk is weak, like telling me that he's gonna bluff the river because he thinks I'm afraid of the flush.
Most of the time at this limit, big bets are made because players try to convince you, that they are bluffing, while they hold near to the nuts. I've seen that a lot.

Still, don't know how to handle this situation.

Thoughts?

PSB on the turn, -as played....this is a tough he either has straight or a flush, his bet on the flop looks like a bad blocking bet.

Yeah, you're right I missed the bet on the turn. Bet/fold would have been best prolly.

Are you serious?

As long as I don't chat myself but only read what others type in, I think it gives me some free extra information occasionally. For example if a player starts to insult others at the table it's a nice hint that he's on tilt probably and I can make some +EV adjustments playing against him.

paying attention to the betting patters will tell you a lot more than the chat box. I leave it on, but I would almost never have it influence any decision I have (if I was in a pure 50-50 spot I may have it be the very last piece of information I will use, but I think that happens once a year).

You're right about that, I just wanted to express that turning it off is a relinquishment of possible informations.
