Too passive with my set?
Just sat down at the table, no reads on anyone. I'm brand spankin' new at this, < 500 hands, so would appreciate some guidance.

Re: Too passive with my set?
Bet flop. Since you didn't, raise flop. If someone treys it start dancing happily, thinking about all the money you're going to make, and cap it (or go to say 10 bets if allowed to).
Since you didn't , c/r turn, cap if given the opportunity (you might think about dancing happily again). Since you didn't, slow down on the river. You maybe allowed a gutshot to draw cheaply. Edit: Looking at the action again I now think we're good here most of the time. Nobody woke new up on the river. |

Re: Too passive with my set?
i hate that you allowed everyone to possibly see the river for one SB postflop.
the entire hand is terrible. read some books, try commenting on others hands to get a feel for how to play. search for "-re: +set" for some other set hands. |

I like how you check/called the ENTIRE hand with sets...

Re: Too passive with my set?
*grunch*
Let's try this. (kinda brand spankin' new as well for me) Pre-flop I'm raising this. With 4 limpers in already, chances are big everyone is going to call the raise, thus I'm sweetening the pot in a favorable situation (5 people to flop is quite good for a hand like 99 I think, correct me if I'm wrong). On the flop i might decide to check/raise or just bet out. True, raising pre-flop would have been bad with this flop, since the pot would be too big to protect my hand against the flush draw, but it's too big now too anyway. But check/call is only good if you want to slowplay the set. Turn: definitely 3-bet here. Not much point in slowplaying to river. River: should have capped this one. Just my 2 cents... |

Re: Too passive with my set?
Grunch.
Pre-flop is fine. Flop, I would have check-raised. Turn, you still have the best possible hand unless someone open limped with KK and that is extreamly unlikely. When you have the best possible hand, you want to bet and raise. River, You are still ahead of everything. Only players with JJ and KK beat you. Not only are those rare hands, but a majority of player (correctly) raise preflop with them. Since your villians did not, then you pretty much have the best hand here. Bet like your life depended on it. |

[ QUOTE ]
Too passive with my set? [/ QUOTE ] Well, I would have raised every single street, at least. Given the way the action went, I'm guessing I would have had the chance to do some 3-betting and capping as well. You checked and called the whole way. Yes, I think your play was a little too passive. |
