Best Player - Who would you pick 1st in an \"entire MLB\" re-draft
I saw the post about Papi, and it turned into an MLB MVP debate.
Here is a hypothetical situation that might get folks thinking about the "best" players in the MLB, as opposed to the "MVP." Let's suppose the following conditions exist. 1.You are managing an AL and NL team for 2007, and your goal is to get to and win the World Series. 2. There is a re-draft of ALL players, but they must be drafted in the league they currently player in. 3. All players get the same salary (so money is not an issue) 4. By lottery draw, you have first pick in both the AL and NL 5. You only keep the players for 2007, so you are not thinking long-term. So... who do you pick? Your AL pick is... Your NL pick is.... |

I had pizza and boneless buffalo bites for dinner. The bites weren't very spicy or good, although the bleu cheese was tasty.

Just call her back. It doesn't matter that she texted you about it 4 days ago. She just needs to hear your voice.

NL: Miguel Cabrera (we can pretend that it's close, but it's not)
AL: Much, much tougher. I guess I'd have to say Johan Santana, though I really want to take a position player. The trouble is, there's no position player as dominant as the top three in the NL. |

[ QUOTE ]
cabrera over pujols? based on what? [/ QUOTE ] Cabrera is about as good, if not as good, plays a defensive position rather than first base, and is at least three years younger. (Pujols is "26," but that could be as understated as much as 3 years. Cabrera is 23.) Pujols already has an injury history with high rates of recurrance. Cabrera does not. Cabrera is somewhat faster on the basepaths than Pujols. Cabrera is a much better bet to age well, and Pujols is not. That's why. EDIT: Didn't see condition #5, got all worked up over a long-term thing. See my post below for changes. |

I believe the OP specifically mentioned we were only thinking for 2007.

Although a good argument could be made for Cabrera even if it is just 2007.
