In the annals of dealer mistakes this is no more than a pin prick. It did not cost you the pot or directly effect the action in the hand. Not tipping him for the rest of the down is an adequate punishment.

I agree. It shouldn't have happened but it didn't cost the OP a penny. Read through this forum and BBV if you want some true dealer horror stories of winning hands being mucked, pots pushed in the wrong direction, river misdeals etc.

I look at my cards and muck.

I have always wondered why people do this. I don't see it much when playing live but i see all the time on TV.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's a tell. Do you see why?

Assuming it is the scenario in the OP (folded to winner who looks at cards and then returns them face down to dealer) it means nothing as a tell.

I've done this before just because I played the whole hand blind, had it folded to me, and wanted to see what I won with.

Unfortunately dealers are only human too. You quit tipping the dealer, so you got even, and the dealer got the point.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agreed. I would have done this.

Dealers are human, humans make mistakes. Ask him politely not to do this again. If it happens again, thats a different story.

Yeah to be honest I don't even remember which dealer it was because I got over it in about 2 hands, so I'm going to keep tipping him, but I thought it was pretty retarded that he showed my hand when he was clearly having a discussion with some of the other regulars about golf or watching tv or something.

Even if I remembered who it was I would probably keep tipping him, the only dealer that I intentionally don't tip is just so unbelievably slow and makes so many mistakes like accidentally exposing mucked hands that I think the casino should wave the drop for his entire down. Then again he only gets like 3 hands out so it doesn't much matter.

As for why I look at my cards before I muck, I have no clue. In this specific hand it was probably because I had a pretty good hand but the board was so boring that even a fish won't pay me off with a horrible hand hoping to catch me on some sort of draw, so I was disappointed that my pot didn't have more dollars in it.

I'm pretty new to B&M, but when I read this I figured the dealer showed because of "I want to see the hand" not show one show all. Does that only apply in certain situations?

I know you usually see it called on a mucked hand at showdown. I also know it's not supposed to be used unless you suspect collusion, but obviously it's not the dealer's fault if it is.

IWTSTH can only be invoked on hands that reach the Showdown.
