October 13th 2007 UIGEA Anniversary

October 13th is the anniversary of passage of the UIGEA bill. This gives us some time to discuss some ideas on a various ways to mark the day as poker players. While it was discussed in another thread, perhaps it deserves it's own. I’d also suggest one on the PPA forum.

Yes, I agree, this needs a thread of it's own, at least for now.

The accurate / specific dates we need be concerned with:

Passage: September 30,
Signed by Bush - October 13

We have a little time to get organized if we wish to stage a virtual march, both dates are important and both need recognition, I believe.

Yes, but we really do not have that much time.

Coming from a business and NGO / Quasi-Government background I know any successful campaign takes some time and pre-promotion to build excitement.

If the PPA is going to endorse and be involved in this, early teaser notices need to be sent out to members soon so that, well, excitement can begin and talk started, kinda pumping up the team.

We should send every member of Congress a poker chip stating that we are voting for our freedom. They should be black chips with the date of the UIGEA. Actually, as I think about it, that would be a good promo for the PPA to do and they could be card protectors. The chipheads at www.chiptalk.com could come up with better designs and concepts.

I've got a poker freindly printer who also has poker chip keychains can put PPA logo message on easily.

OK, now we are really thinking and using our brains for more than counting outs amd calculating odds!

1. We need the PPA on board and a campain to raise funds.
2. Someone folks in Washington, with prior publicity, to deliver, one chip for evey PPA member to congress.
3. A local D.C. company that can produce that many chips in a week or so, all colors and dated.

This of course would be supported by letters and calls from members all over the country to our reps.

Depending on how fancy you want to get you're looking at less than $3 per piece assuming 4 colors and printing on both sides. A rough estimate. Tried uploading an image but having problems it's 1 1/2 inches around and a lighted keychain.
