Default Live 20/40 Gar vs. Pro Part 1

Location: Bay 101 in San Jose, CA
Stakes: $20/$40
Players: Ok semi-loose 9-handed. Aggressive table, but not tricky. Only *** of 5 stars. There is a Pro to my right who to my knowledge has logged well over a thousand hours at 20/40.

Principal players:
UTG Pro. Has played tight aggressive. But not overly aggressive. Seems pretty decent.

UTG+1 Garland. TAG, with such image and others can sense that.

UTG+2 LAG middle aged Chinese gambler. Has made moves like check-raising the flop and then check-folding the turn rather quickly to me implying he was just making a pure move.

Preflop action: (1.5 small bets, 9 players) UTG limps, I have - - and am already confused what to do, but take a few seconds and call, UTG+1 calls, 3 other people including the blinds are in. Here we go!

Flop action: (6 small bets, 6 players) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] UTG bets, I raise, UTG+2 3-bets, all else fold to UTG who caps. Ok, start putting people [including myself] on hands and what should I call with?

All comments appreciated, results to come.

Garland

I would add AA to UTG, who might have missed a PF LRR

Default What I had...

I had AJo (no club). I hated my pre-flop decision. I honestly went through all three possibilities in my mind. Any thought about UTG Pro having me dominated with AK, AQ went out the window. Any pocket pair bigger than TT certainly raises, and I'm not absolute sure about Pro's range other than I had never seen an open-limp. I suppose some suited broadway cards were in consideration.

What do you think?

Interesting results to come...

yeah... calling pf is wrong. My response before reading your most recent post would have been, "who the farg cares what they have? either you have 78, so you're calling down, or you have a draw, so you're calling til you hit (or the board makes it wrong to continue to draw). If you HAVE 77, think about raising on the turn." It's really wrong for you to have this hand here. Didn't anyone ever teach you that AJo doesn't play well in a multiway pot?

Yes, and this was a first time that I didn't want to raise because I respected Pro, but folding seemed so wrong, but maybe it was right to. After the hand and understanding a bit more of Pro's UTG limping range, I know it would have been right to raise.

Default Thoughts and results...

Thoughts: Raise or fold pre-flop. Fold to the flop cap.

Results:

Flop action: (6 small bets, 6 players) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] UTG bets, I raise, UTG+2 3-bets, all else fold to UTG who caps, I fold, UTG+2 calls.

Turn action: (8 big bets, 2 players)
6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] UTG bets, UTG+2 raises, UTG calls

River action (12 big bets, 2 players)

T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] UTG bets, UTG+2 raises, UTG re-raises, UTG+2 calls.

UTG had A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG+2 had 9To for a chop.

How do we rate Pro's play here?

Preflop I thought Pro had A8/A7/88/77 or a weaker A than you (AT most likely).

I put you on ATish based on your comments.

Pro's play I like except the 3 bet on the river. I probably would have c/r'd the flop though in UTG's case. I'm not sure how a lead is superior. But once Pro bets the flop, the cap is good to try to get you to fold AT/A9 which is a good guess at what you have.

So you approve of UTG limp with A9s?

I don't limp ATo UTG+1. And actually the more I think of it, the more I think the river action went: UTG check/check-raise/4-bet.
