My br is ready to move to higher stakes, but am I?

Not sure if this is the right place for this post, but I play micro, so it seems like it...

When I deposited $600 onto FT a couple months ago, I started playing 25NL, along with $10 SNG's and MTT tourneys.

Now, my BR is approaching $2,000, and while I've started playing $20 SNGs, I'm still playing the same ring game stakes. My reasoning is this: I've made nearly all of my money playing SNG's and MTT. My PTBB/100 is only 2.51, and I've played just 6,500 hands at 25NL.

I'm not sure if I should wait until I get 10,000 hands in and a little better winrate at 25NL, or if I should just move up to 50NL now, since I'm rolled for it. My issue with this is that I have the bankroll only because of my tourney play, not my cash game play, so I don't know if I'm ready to "graduate" to 50NL, so to speak.

Thoughts?

why even play cash games if you're better at tournaments? i mean, there are other formats that i like more than 6max cash nlhe, but its the one i do the best at, so i'm not going to waste time on anything else.

there's no chance that nlhe tournament formats are going to go out of fashion anytime soon, so my advice would be to just spend all of your time playing those.

I would definitely say I'm better at tournaments, but I want to learn to play cash games, too, because that's where I can make good money live (where the play is worse than 25NL). I'm not thinking of making 50NL my dominant game, but I do want to keep playing cash games part of the time.

Wether you have played 6.5k or 10k hands it doesn't say much about your true win rate so forget your win rate with these sample sizes. You should take shots when you feel that you can beat NL25. I'm also trying to move from NL25 to NL50. The reason for moving up is the feeling that I can beat NL25 not my bankroll.

Exactly b/c of this. They take a lot of time and the variance is much higher than cash games.

It is easier to move up in cash games.

I played SNGs about a year ago. More and more people were learning a correct push/fold ICM strategy.

This is especially true at the $30, $50, $100+.

Late in a SNG you push or fold and are thrilled to get into a 60/40 sitution.

Cash games take more work but are more profitable.

If you do better at SNG keep playing them. More power to you.

I would log at least 25k hands at nl25 for 4ptbb/100 before I move up.

Disclaimer: I skip the MTT part, as I don't play tournaments except for fun sometimes.

6,5k hands mean nothing. I beat NL25 for about 7PTBB/100 over 35k hands. 5k later my winning rate dropped to 2.3PTBB/100, I lost 8 Stacks in a row when I was a big favourite.
10k hands later, I am at 4.8/100. You see the variance?

If I were you, I'd take shots at NL50. Most important: do table selection! I don't think table selection is very important at NL25 (you may find better tables, but it's a cheap way to play against some tougher opponents, and I am sure you will find these guys more often, the higher you move up). Get comfortable with tough spots, they happen all day long.

Currently I am playing at stars, there is always at least one reg at the table. Watch out. If they outplay you, leave the table or read, learn, understand and play back [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Take some NL50 shots on Friday and Saturday night when the play is much worse. You'll get comfortable with the money and all that, but you have 2k so it shouldn't bother you anyways
