Default The physics of the last turd phenomenon

OK, I have asked this before without any satisfactory answers. But based on the science thread, there appear to be numerous science whizzes currently reading OOT.

So, here's the question.

Oftentimes, after I take a dump and flush, the water swirls and everything gets flushed EXCEPT FOR ONE LAST PIECE OF TURD.

This phenomenon has occurred with both huge dumps and small dumps. Both tight dumps and looser ones. The nature of the dump does not seem to impact this phenomenon. Has also happened in different toilets, so that does not seem to be a key element in this phenomenon either.

So, science whizzes, what's the deal with sometimes having to flush a second time to get that one last piece of turd to go down?

That last piece of turd could be lighter than the rest, caused by the fact that it might be methane-infused. This methane-infused turd might be having trouble getting past the U-shaped pipe thing that usually prevents waste from flowing back into your toilet. Don't know if it's right...just a hypothesis.

Perhaps you should save a control sample, flush and then save a "floater" sample and have them analyzed to see if this hypothesis is correct. I could also ask my girlfriend who's had experience with vortices and fluid dynamics, perhaps these forces come into play as well.

Perhaps your diet just doesn't give your turds that methane infusion that the floater needs to stay behind.

this thread is a turd.

because as they swirl around they are sucked downward. this so-called last turd is impeded from swirling down the vortex because of the other ones that are at the front of the line. by the time those get down the drain, the flush is almost complete.

we are also all aware of the phenomenom of the one that disappears only to shoot back out. this is a lesser version of the turd that just stays put.

There's only one person on this forum who could make this post and not get a *.

And while we're on the subject - have you ever had a stealth turd that somehow dives into the bottom of the bowl and disappears? And then you wipe and it's a totally dry one? Ok, did I just crap or was that a hallucination?

Noah,

The turd that dares risk total flushing to glimpse the abyss only to return to the bowl is a daring danger-seeker, and far more admirable than the cowardly turd that just stays put. To call this daredevil turd "lesser" is absurd.

I think El D's trying to see how far he can push the line without getting a star. I guess he doesn't care since he'll soon be confined to a state mental hospital
