Default what about flash drives

i got a san disk i gig flash drive- goes into usb port and works wonderfully. i havent seen anyone touting them and wonder why. no need for cd disks anymore. i understand they keep the data a year or two. the download speed to them is almost instant compared to copying files to a cd. i see no downside, so what am i missing here. mine was 50 bucks and i see costco has an 8 gig one for 100 but a little bigger. these things are small like 3/4 inch by two inches or so.

Not cheap to replace, not all people have them, can't listen to flash drives in the car.

They are very useful to back up documents, unfortunately I cannot seem to have one for more than a month before I lose it.

I've wondered the same thing for a while. I carry mine with me everywhere, keep everything on it. Everybody always looks at it and says, "wowwwww, cooooollll...", and I say "you know, you can get one of these for $39 at Best Buy?"

One thing that is an absolute must with those drive are Portable apps (http://portableapps.com/)

Its so much more pleasant to open Firefox on a new computer and find everything just like your own PC...(or any other supported portable app)

I just bought a 2 GB SD card for $50. it's more versatile than a USB Drive, as I can use it in my digital camera, or to hold MP3's in my treo.

my PC has a built in SD card reader, and I bought a small SD card reader for my laptop. so it's nearly as convenient to use as a USB flash drive, but more useful.
