Default Sit back and cash or play those cowboys

I was playing a 11$ snG on stars (45 man) and made the top 6 already. I was healthy stacked like in 3rd place and the blinds were high... a pretty tight player (chip ldr) raise me all in when i had cowboys and he had KJ suited. he obviously won and i got 6th but there were like 2 ppl with basically no chips and if i sat back i would have won a lot more and probably come 3rd.. what would u do? should i have laid them down in this case? I know its said "never lay down cowboys" but im not so sure in this situation.

always fold JJ+ You will never win with big pairs so don't even bother trying to play them.

Ya, I always fold KK when it's down to 6 people and someone puts me all-in before it gets to me.

<end sarcasm>

I want to WIN this thing, if you get beat here, tough luck. But why would you not want to double up here with KK (most of the time) and then you can pick on those 2 little stacks and ensure you get 3rd at least anyway?

The only way I fold KK here is if the chip leader pushed big and there were already a couple callers...THEN I might think about laying them down. Even then, only the one player has you covered (usually) so even if you lose the main pot to one of the small stacks, you can still break even or better on the side pot.

technically you should always play where you have winning equity. now the question is did you play the hand badly. its irreslevent that he won if you pushed PF. if you called his AI with 2 jacks on board then you know where you went wrong, not playing them PF is NOT the mistake. skalansky might say (and i think he has) that not playing them may net you more b/c you will have more "3d" places, but i ascribe to the action dan theory that your firsts make up for these other times you get bad beated.

hey duder. don't worry you did the right thing and it's not even close. something to keep in mind in sit n go's is that finishing first is significantly better than finishing just in the money.
