[/ QUOTE ] There is a difference between being a contender and being able to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals. They are not a contender. However, they have a strong offense and a strong defense. What's been missing from that team is goaltending - it's the most hot-and-cold aspect of a hockey team. I'm not a Leafs fan. However, I think they've improved enough to make the playoffs this year, and from there, anything can happen.

the leafs look a lot better on paper then they do on the ice.
mccabe, kubina, gil, wojnewski are all serious defensive liabilities. there top 6-7 forwards are good. as for toskala, if you watch him play notice that teams seem to always go upper glove side on him.

The defensemen are pretty good, but it doesn't help when there's a terrible goaltender behind it. Unfortunately for them, Toskala doesn't seem like the answer either.

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe you should give the guy more than one preseason and a few games before you write him off. Did you see any of his games in San Jose? I think it's more of a bad stretch and not yet being acclimatized to a market that actually cares about hockey. Please ship it soon. Should be a good game tonight. I'm going with 4-3 Leafs.

They are all slow as fk and have already been exposed by 3 different teams in 6 games. Having a 6'7 and 6'5 paired together against top lines is laughable. They're going to get burned off the rush all year long against teams like Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Philly.
