ANy advice on appropriate staking guidelines would be great.

The best advice I can give you is don't stake. ever. not even friends. You'd be surprised how much money you make doing this.

this is bad advice. if you're smart about staking you can use it to make a good additional income with little effort. the problem is the majority of players don't really understand the deals they're involved in and get screwed that way. or they make deals with people they don't know well enough.

learn to understand the math involved with winrate/standard deviation/risk of ruin calculations. make sure you're getting a +EV deal. if they don't have a long track record, make conservative estimates. don't choose to make deals with "standard" terms because what should be "standard" varies so much from person to person and deal to deal.

I am currently staking 12 players (nearly 30 in the last two years) in online cash games with very good success. If you have any specific questions, send me an email. I'd rather not go into long discussion here, but I'd be happy to assist.

I have staked nearly 30 players [in online cash games], losing with only two players for approximately $2,500. One cheated me and the other quit early. The winning players generated in excess of 100K in stakes btw. .50/1.00 and 2/4 NL (net, rake, bonuses). The backer should always act in his/her best interest, as the player is fortunate enough to have such an opportunity. Also, it is essential the backer play an integral role in the clients' play. I act as each client's poker coach. The hard work has certainly paid off. If only I could remember how to play myself.
