So you more experienced players - why does it feel like I keep losing hands where I'm favourite?

[/ QUOTE ]

Nobody remembers losing hands where they were a huge dog, or winning those for that matter. We only remember the bad beats.

That's not entirely true. I do well remember cracking AA with 72o, but that was against a friend so it doesn't really count.

You're going to lose 20% of the time when you go in as a 4:1 favorite. (no, really!) We poker players think that we should never lose when we are 4:1, never! Anytime we do lose as a big favorite we consider it a gross injustice and think that the universe owes us some compensation.

The odds of THIS suckout?

If you have a pocket pair, and your opponent has one card that matches your pair, the odds that opponent flops quads is

1 in 17,296

astronomical, right? not really. If you play a lot of hands, you can expect to see worse. If opponent didn't have a queen (nor pocket pair), his odds of flopping quads are 1 in 8,648

I obviously haven't played enough poker yet - I've had at least 3 opponents flop quads on me (all online), but only ever had quads once (by the turn), which was in a live game.

Of course there might have been plenty that never actually made it to the flop.

that's pretty sick! I'd probably quit poker if that happened to me.

Then quit now, because it or something like it is guaranteed to happen to you if you play regularly.
