What stack size is it best to cold-call with?
Having played a lot of 6 max cash games I've developed an aversion to cold-calling when the opener is in fairly late position. But in tournaments I find myself in some awkward spots due to the stack sizes.
For example, with an M of 22 (33 BBs) you pick up 99 on the button and the hijack opens for 3 BBs. If you rr to 9 BBs and he shoves, your odds are 2.17 to 1 and you probably have to fold. However, your hand is probably ahead of his range and after cold-calling you often have to fold the best hand when a couple of overcards come. Do you prefer to reraise when you are committed to calling a shove, or when you can get away from it? |

Re: What stack size is it best to cold-call with?
Don't use M, it's a concept that basically has no use. In the situation you mentioned, I am coldcalling often in that 30 bbs+ range. If I am reraising, usually it's a value reraise where I think he's willing to get it in w/ worse than 99.
