The longer he stagnates the less likely it is he'll achieve his upside.

He's 22 in 2008.

beat me to it. 2nd in RoY voting!!! what does anyone think of Young's CF skills? he seems to do better in RF, but just wondering.

maybe the yankees insisted on getting a CF player in return in the Santana/Hughes/Melky+prospects trade. could Young never actually play for the Twins? longshot, i know.

[/ QUOTE ]

Young could get by doing spot duty for a day off or a slight injury in CF but I don't think anyone has the idea that he is a full time CF. At least the Twins don't.

Crisp, Lester, Lowrie and Bowden seems pretty close to being done apparently.

[/ QUOTE ]

Tell me why I should like this as a Twins fan.

Why shouldn't you? Your team is in rebuilding mode.

Because when it compares to a potential Yankees package, Cabrera/Hughes > Crisp/Lester, no?

Hughes>>>>>>>>Lester. Cabrera is roughly =, maybe a little worse than Crisp but far cheaper which is what is important to the Twinkies.

They are substituting quantity for quality. That and Crisp is overpaid, fragile and forgot how to hit.

/edit I get the feeling they really like Lowrie...

Melky has a lot more "upside". If I was rwperu I'd say something about "tools" or "floors/ceilings" or how I'd give part of my soul to fellate this guy, but instead I think guys who hit the bigs at age 22 and are MLB avg CFers have a pretty good track record as a whole.
