Sorry, I've been busy!!
My original style was called, "American Karate", then my sensie defected and called his style, "Ultimate Karate", so, my black belt was in a style pretentiously called that. It was in full-contact sparring, no head gear, picture American boxing with Chuck Norris style kicks... the new style is Tae Kwon Do, which is about 95% just kicks.... I will admit that their kicks are very fast and if you get hit in the head, quite effective... but it's a sport style, not a real fighting style. No submission holds stuff. the "ultimate style" was designed to be very aggressive, going for the knock-out. Lots of good sparring stories. Head contact was not encouraged among the lower ranks... Among higher ranks, a BAP on the head was all you needed to do to let your opponent know you had the knock-out set up...

The more and more I hear about people who start training in a martial art and get their black belt or a fairly high rank in like 2 years, the happier I am that I chose the dojo i'm training at now.
It'll be fun to get my green belt a few years up the road, maybe visit another dojo and start womping on their black belts.
