Re: I\'m Legal Now--What\'s my move?
the best and only help I can give you is to quit poker and gambling until you are mature enough not to do this.
the day you know you are mature enough is the day that playing on a short roll doesn't sound attractive anymore. |

Re: I\'m Legal Now--What\'s my move?
I took the time to read it.
You're a loser in poker and in life. Seriously...I think you need help. "I had lost $6000~ in about an hour. Yet I wasn't depressed, or sad, or even angry. The experience was invigorating, the pain I felt in my stomach was refreshing. I loved it. but how was this possible? who the [censored] likes losing? whats wrong with me? I slowly started to realize that it wasnt poker I liked, it was gambling. and that was going to be a major obstacle." That is [censored] scary. I hate gambling, I ABHOR gambling. I feel very sorry for you. |

Re: I\'m Legal Now--What\'s my move?
Have you guys seen Two for the Money? I thought the movie was sub-par at best. A friend made me watch it because of the little speech Matthew McConnaughey gives
"You're a lemon. Like a bad car. There is something... there is something inherently defective in you, and you, and you, and me, and all of us. We're all lemons. We look like everyone else, but what makes us different is our defect. See, most gamblers, when they go to gamble, they go to win. When we go to gamble, we go to lose. Subconsciously. Me, I never feel better than when they're raking the chips away; not bringing them in. And everyone here knows what I'm talking about. Hell, even when we win it's just a matter of time before we give it all back. But when we lose, that's another story. When we lose, and I'm talking about the kind of loss that makes your [censored] pucker to the size of a decimal point - you know what I mean - You've just recreated the worst possible nightmare this side of malignant cancer, for the twentieth goddamn time; and you're standing there and you suddenly realise, Hey, I'm still... here. I'm still breathing. I'm still alive. Us lemons, we [censored] [censored] up all the time on purpose. Because we constantly need to remind ourselves we're alive. Gambling's not your problem. It's this [censored] up need to feel something. To convince yourself you exist. That's the problem." I would definitely say thats an accurate description of my life. And I want to get over that. I don't want to gamboool. I want to play poker. I just need to make the transition |

Wow, O.K. First of all good story, you write well . Second, don't steal from Grandma, you go to hell for that I am pretty sure; besides when you get older and they die you can't go back and say sorry. This is the thing though, whatever qualities you may possess that will allow to to be successful in poker/gambling, it does little good if you can not manage your money at least even a little bit. I am a loser at life so take this fwiw. Good luck, dont be a degen tho any dumass can do that.

Re: I\'m Legal Now--What\'s my move?
I asked Grandma before taking rhe money. It's not like it's her supplemental income, it's just something she does every morning when she drinks her coffee. They money was intended for me originally, she just never expected me to be gambling with it. It was meant for entertainment purposes like movies, games etc... Ironically, I stopped socializing for awhile because of poker so I guess it served its intended purpose afterall.

Re: I\'m Legal Now--What\'s my move?
Listen up kid, I loved the story and your poker career has had many roller coaster trips. I am glad you are better tha fgators, but these guys are right. Your behavior with gambling is kind of scary. However, if you are serious I suggest the following. Start off small stakes and build up. I also suggest you mix up games between live, online, omaha, stud, razz, always stay small though. The more hands you can play the more you will learn. But seriously kid, I am 23 and have been playing since I was 15 and I am still nowhere wehere I need to be as a player. I love playing and know that I am good at it and have potential, but in the end that's why I am here. Every once and a while these guys say something that matters. You will always get the "you suck" and "is this real," I know I do. Anyway, start small and stay small. Lots of hands. Tight, but aggresive. Do it kid, and one day I hope to see you at the final table. Hopefully, I'll have the chip lead. [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

Re: I\'m Legal Now--What\'s my move?
Should I bet taking shots in microlimit tournaments with ring game profits? Or just stick strictly to cash games?

Re: I\'m Legal Now--What\'s my move?
sounds like you still see poker as a fun hobby and you are certainly more in it for the thrills than for actually churning out some kind of secondary income. Its ok to play for fun but pissing away thousands of dollars for a 18 year old is just silly.
Its good that you realize that you arent that good, the majority of the people on this site are indeed losing players with big egos. Now with that thought in mind I would recommend just playing for relatively small amounts, it can still be thrilling at times but sitting with H@ll with no real experience on zero bankroll is a formula for going bust. Improving takes time, grinding it out on each level and most importantly discipline. I honestly think you are better off just keeping a couple hundred on stars for having fun at cheap mtts and focusing your time in some other facet. |
